ANGLING CLUB OPEN NIGHT

The Angling Club's very well attended Annual Open Night was held last night in Scotland's Hotel. The evening started with the presentation of Club trophies by Rhona Smith to the 2013 trophy winners. Rhona had come down from Skye to present the new Maurice Wilson Trophy donated by herself to be awarded annually for the largest salmon caught in June on Portnacraig Pitlochry Beat by a club member. The trophy is in the memory of club member Maurice Wilson, who was her husband, who passed away fishing on Portnacraig bank on 1 June 1993. Many members have fond memories of Maurice and the trophy was awarded for its first year to Brian Joseph for the capture of a lovely fresh run fish of 17 lb from Portnacraig Bank just before the end of June 2013.  Then followed a fascinating demonstration of the tying of several interesting trout flies by Peter McCallum, refreshments, and the raffle and the auction of fishing tackle and other items generously donated in aid of our this year's charities - Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and Pitlochry Senior Citizens' Bus. All proceeds from the raffle and auction go to these charities, and the wonderful total raised was about £2300 - very many thanks to many people and businesses who generously donated items, and to those who bought raffle tickets and items in the auction.
